Isaiah 6:8 NLT  Then I heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?”       I said, “Here I am. Send me.”

Disciple Lesson 4 – Christ Came to Fulfill the Law

Matthew 5:17-20  ‘Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

Therefore, whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.’

Lesson Questions:  For hundreds of years, the Jews had been committed to following the law of Moses and the oral laws of the Pharisees. Why was it important for Jesus to say he was not there to abolish the law or the profits?  Why should a person’s righteousness exceeded scribes and the Pharisees?
